The death toll from the multiple fires raging across Los Angeles County rose to 10 on Thursday night, as the largest of the five blazes—the Palisades Fire—grew to cover nearly 20,000 acres as strong winds meant the “Red Flag” fire weather conditions will remain in effect until Friday evening.

At least 11 people killed, around 12,000 structures destroyed; fires consume about 56 square miles (142 square kilometres), an area larger than the size of San Francisco.

Six wildfires continue to burn around Los Angeles county as of Friday afternoon local time, with authorities trying to contain the blazes.
