STUART — Officials from the city and from Martin County are to sit down together Thursday in an attempt to settle a dispute over a $60 million Brightline station.

But months later, the newly elected Stuart City Commission rescinded a land lease agreement with Brightline, essentially pulling out of the deal.

At the heart of the deadlock are philosophical differences, with Stuart Vice Mayor Christopher Collins maintaining there can be no agreement without Brightline paying for part of the station. Otherwise, taxpayers are funding the entire project, he said, whether grant money comes from the county or federal government.
