While the days of quarterback-needy teams hoping that Jimmy Garoppolo could become a franchise savior are now in the past, some within the NFL community were surprised he decided to re-sign with the Los Angeles Rams to remain their backup behind Matthew Stafford when at least one other club likely would've given Garoppolo an opportunity to compete for a starting job this summer.

The Rams have reached an agreement with QB Jimmy Garoppolo, who was receiving interest from other teams, to serve as a backup to starter Matthew Stafford.

Garoppolo backed up quarterback Matthew Stafford up in 2024 in his first season with the Rams. He also started in Week 18 as Stafford rested following the Rams clinching the NFC West. Garoppolo completed 65.9% of his passes in that game, a 30-25 loss to Seattle, throwing for 334 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
