TSN's Pierre LeBrun and Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff reported Wednesday that the Flyers are "zeroing in" and "closing in" on hiring Tocchet as their next head coach, although it isn't yet official. The Flyers fired former head coach John Tortorella on March 27 with only nine games left in the regular season.

Tocchet is returning to Philadelphia to try and usher this phase of the Flyers' rebuild toward the playoffs and, eventually, Cup contention.

It is the hope of both Briere and Jones that Tocchet can take the Flyers’ rebuild to the next level. Former coach John Tortorella oversaw that task for three seasons. Some progress was made in the 2022-23 season but the team regressed last season, finishing last in the Metropolitan Division.
