Multiple users reported issues with OpenAI on Thursday morning, according to Downdetector. By 6:45 a.m. more than 4,000 people reported issues with the service to Downdetector, more than 90% of which indicated problems with ChatGPT.
While outages and disruption in services are common for internet services, ChatGPT has experienced downtimes frequently over the last few weeks. In December, ChatGPT was hit by a massive outage in the US, resulting in glitches in additional OpenAI services, as well.
GenAI chatbot ChatGPT is currently down globally, leaving users who have grown accustomed to quick fixes from the chatbot in a frenzy.

ChatGPT experienced an unplanned outage today, January 23, 2025, affecting users in the U.S., U.K and around the world. Reports started to emerge on outage-tracking site DownDetector and across social media at around 4am PT/ 7am ET/ 12pm GMT with no official word from parent company OpenAI on what the cause is.
