Minnesota Republicans have filed a lawsuit against Governor Tim Walz after the governor called a special election where the DFL candidate was recently ruled ineligible over residency requirements.

The ACLU of Florida filed the lawsuit on behalf of Navarre resident Christina Forrest and Palm Bay resident Janet Laimont.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Monday issued a writ of special election to fill the vacancy in Senate District 60 following the death of Sen. Kari Dziedzic. The lawsuit comes after a judge granted Republican candidate Paul Wikstrom's contest of the results of the House race after finding his Democratic opponent, Curtis Johnson, did not establish residency in District 40B.
