Apple’s announcement of a new Mac Studio for 2025 took a lot of people by surprise. While many of us had assumed (correctly) that Apple was gearing up to announce new M4-powered MacBook Airs, few were expecting a new Mac Studio.

The Mac Studio comes with your choice of two different processors: the single-chip M4 Max, which is the default for the base model, or the M3 Ultra, which costs an additional $2,000. The M3 Ultra, as the name suggests, is based upon the M3 Max, Apple's top-of-the-line single-chip .
