Rescinding trades is highly uncommon in the NBA. However, teams do have the right to cancel a trade if there are legitimate concerns. Unfortunately for the Lakers, the trade deadline has now passed and they have a full 15-man roster. As such, they're unable to find a replacement big man on the trade or free agent market.

Williams is a legit starting center in the NBA; he's not a perfect player and his offensive game is still developing, but he's a reliable lob threat, a real deterrant in the paint and is still improving in pretty much all facets.

The team says in a statement there was a “failure to satisfy a condition of the trade,” with ESPN reporting that the 7-foot center failed the Lakers’ physical exam.
