No one was faster down the steep middle section of the course than Vonn, 40, making the third appearance of her surprising comeback.

Macuga took advantage of improving visibility to make the podium for the first time ahead of Stephanie Venier and Federica Brignone, as Vonn improved on her Saturday downhill sixth.

Vonn said she wasn't '100%' but her form suggests she may be building well for next month's World Championships in Saalbach, Austria.
