On a stellar day for the United States ski team, Lauren Macuga got her first World Cup win in a super-G and Lindsey Vonn impressed again in fourth place at St.

“Dad,” Lauren Macuga said, “I won.” She was speaking minutes after her first Alpine skiing World Cup victory, a super-G in St. Anton, Austria. A year earlier, the best finish of Lauren’s budding career had been 17th. She steadily improved since, strengthened in particular by gym work over the summer.

Macuga took advantage of improving visibility to make the podium for the first time ahead of Stephanie Venier and Federica Brignone, as Vonn improved on her Saturday downhill sixth.

Lindsey Vonn’s stellar return to alpine skiing at age 40 continued and a rising 22-year-old American teammate announced her arrival. On Saturday in St. Anton, Switzerland, Vonn finished sixth place in her first World Cup downhill competition in nearly six years and followed that with a fourth-place finish Sunday in the Super-G,
