Mahmoud Ahmed (Amharic: ማሕሙድ አሕመድ; born 8 May 1941) [1][2][3] is an Ethiopian singer. [4] He gained great popularity in Ethiopia in the 1970s and among the Ethiopian diaspora in the 1980s, before rising to international fame with African music fans in Europe and the Americas.

On November 1, 2024, Mahmoud announced his retirement plans at a press conference held at Addis Ababa’s Sheraton Hotel. Themed “Mahmoud Ahmed’s Farewell Concert,” the event revealed that his final performance would take place at the iconic Millennium Hall, with over 20,000 attendees expected.

On January 11, 2025, Addis Ababa’s Millennium Hall witnessed a momentous event as Mahmoud Ahmed, Ethiopia’s legendary singer, bid farewell to the stage.
